Halo: Reach is a science-fiction first-person shooter set in the year 2552 during the Human-Covenant War. As the UNSC’s primary military outpost outside the Sol system, the planet Reach becomes the target of a massive Covenant assault. Players assume the role of SPARTAN-B312, known as Noble Six, the newest member of the elite Noble Team—a mix of Spartan-II and Spartan-III supersoldiers. The campaign follows the squad’s desperate efforts to slow the invasion, protect civilians and key assets, and ultimately ensure critical intelligence reaches the Pillar of Autumn.
The game returns to the health-and-shields system of the original Halo while introducing reusable Armor Abilities such as Sprint, Jetpack, Active Camouflage, Hologram, Drop Shield, and Armor Lock. These abilities add strategic depth to both campaign and multiplayer. Campaign missions blend infantry combat, vehicle sections (Warthogs, Falcons, tanks, and even space combat), and large-scale battles. Up to four players can experience the story cooperatively via split-screen or Xbox Live.
Beyond the campaign, Halo: Reach expands Firefight with multiple variants and full matchmaking, offers classic and new multiplayer modes (Slayer, Capture the Flag, Headhunter, Stockpile, Invasion, Generator Defense), and includes the powerful Forge editor for custom maps plus Theater for reviewing gameplay. Extensive armor customization and a credit system for unlocks further enhance longevity. As Bungie’s swan song for the franchise before the studio moved on, Reach refined the series’ signature gameplay while delivering a memorable, self-contained prequel story that sets the stage for the events of Halo: Combat Evolved.
